Today, House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force mobilized in support of a legal challenge to President Donald Trump’s unlawful attempt to erase a nearly 50-year-old, bipartisan safeguard for presidential records. The Members of Congress filed an amicus brief in American Historical Association v. Trump, a lawsuit brought by historians seeking to preserve White House papers and electronic messages for the American people.

Washington, D.C. — As President Donald Trump attempts to conclude the sham $10 billion lawsuit he filed against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)—an agency he oversees as President of the United States—House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force simultaneously filed a motion challenging the legitimacy of the case and the unconstitutional taxpayer-funded settlement.

The Litigation Task Force led 216 House and Senate Democrats in filing a bicameral amicus brief standing up for the essential constitutional principle of birthright citizenship in Trump v. Barbara, currently before the Supreme Court with oral arguments scheduled for April 1, 2026.
